Sculptra®

Sculptra® is a great treatment in that gives you that natural and youthful appearance with great longevity of around 2 years. It stimulates the body to produce collagen restoring loss of volume caused by the ageing process.

What is Sculptra®

Sculptra® is made from Poly-L-Lactic Acid which is a biocompatible synthetic substance, similar to sutures used in surgery. Due to its ability to stimulate the growth of your own natural collagen the result can last up to 2 years or even more. The Poly-L-Lactic Acid is naturally broken down by the body between 6-9 months after treatment but the stimulation of collagen production continues.

How does it work?

Following injection of the Sculptra® solution, the Poly-L-Lactic Acid starts to stimulate collagen. It achieves this by stimulating your skin cells to produce collagen improving structure and elasticity to your skin and then gradually replenishes the loss of volume. As it continues to work it restores the skin’s own natural contours smoothing out lines and wrinkles, creases and folds.

Sculptra® is also particularly effective restoring and giving natural volume to sunken cheeks.

As Sculptra® is designed to work gradually; results are therefore not immediate like that following traditional dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid. However, you will see initially an increased volume effect for about 4-5 days post treatment which is due to the water content of the Sculptra® solution. This decreases as the water content is absorbed. This is perfectly normal and what you don’t see is the stimulation of the collagen beginning. Over the next few weeks you will visibly start to see an improvement from your treatment and clearly noticeable after 6 weeks.

What to expect when having a treatment?

For optimum results, a course of 3 treatment sessions are generally recommended which are usually separated approximately 6 weeks apart. The amount of treatment sessions is also dependent on the indications for it so more or less maybe required.  Treatment areas include the cheeks, lower face and chin areas.

A numbing cream is applied to the areas to be treated to make the treatment more comfortable for you. Like with any injectable treatment, bruising may occur and I do my best to avoid this. Once treatment with the Sculptra® has finished, the areas are gently massaged.

Post treatment care is very important which involves daily massaging of your treated areas. The reason for frequent massaging is to help even distribution of the product and prevent it clumping up. Massaging also stimulates the production of collagen.

The more you massage the better the result. The recommended massage protocol is as follows:

Massage technique is – 5 minutes, 5 times a day for 5 weeks.

Please note: The Sculptra® has to be prepared a few days prior to your treatment; in view of this a deposit is required at the time of booking. This deposit is non-refundable should you need to cancel within 4 days prior to your appointment. The deposit is included in the overall price and not an added cost to your treatment. This is also explained in the Clinic’s terms and conditions.
